Short answer
Instagram account recovery in Germany starts with Instagram’s own routes: request a review on a disabled notice, or use instagram.com/hacked if someone took over the account. Official steps that come first
- If a disabled or suspended notice appears, tap it and request a review. Go through every step, including any selfie check.
- If the email, number or password was changed, open instagram.com/hacked on a phone or computer you have used before.
- Search your inbox and spam for an Instagram email about the change. Its undo link only works for a limited time.
- Check that your German SIM works, since codes go to that number.
- Send one complete appeal and wait for the reply to the email on the account.
Checks that matter in Germany
- Your +49 number: a German mobile written 0151 1234567 is entered as +49 151 1234567, without the zero. Telekom, Vodafone, O2 and other providers issue a replacement SIM after you identify yourself.
- Police reports online: each federal state runs an Onlinewache where you can file a report about fraud, threats or identity misuse. In an emergency call 110. Tell your bank straight away if money moved.
- Consumer advice: the Verbraucherzentrale consumer advice centres give free guidance on phishing and account takeovers.
- Hate and harassment: HateAid is a German non-profit that supports people targeted by online hate and threats.
- Phishing bait: “your account violates copyright”, fake DHL or Amazon messages and links from hijacked friends are common. Never sign in through a link in a message.
EU appeal rights
Instagram must give users in the EU an internal complaint route under the Digital Services Act, and tell them about out-of-court dispute bodies. In Germany, the Bundesnetzagentur acts as the coordinator for the Act. Appeals Centre Europe is one certified body that accepts some content and account decisions from EU users. It does not cover hacked accounts or decisions based on account behaviour. Use Instagram’s own review first.
What not to do
- Don’t pay or message anyone from a DM who says they can “open” your account.
- Don’t share your password or login codes with anyone, including us.
- Don’t create new accounts to plead with Instagram, and don’t send the same appeal over and over.
