Short answer
Instagram account recovery in Australia uses Instagram’s own routes: request a review on a disabled notice, or use instagram.com/hacked if someone took over the account. Since December 2025 an age check can also be part of the picture. Unbanz helps you submit a clean appeal through Meta’s official process; Meta makes the final decision.
Official steps that come first
- If you see a disabled or suspended notice, tap it and request a review. Complete each step it shows, including any selfie check.
- If the email, number or password changed, open instagram.com/hacked on a phone or computer you have logged in from before, on your usual home or work connection.
- Search your inbox and spam for an Instagram email about the change. A link to undo it only works for a limited time, so use it first.
- If Instagram wants a video selfie, record it in good light and follow the head movements it shows.
- If the notice mentions your age, use the age check on that screen before you do anything else (see the section below).
- Send one complete appeal and wait for the reply to the email on the account.
Checks that matter in Australia
- Your +61 number: an Australian mobile written 04xx xxx xxx is entered as +61 4xx xxx xxx, without the zero. Telstra, Optus, Vodafone and other providers ask for identity checks before they move a number to a new SIM, so sort a lost SIM out before you start recovery.
- Report scams and fraud: Scamwatch (scamwatch.gov.au) takes scam reports, and ReportCyber at cyber.gov.au is the national route for cybercrime reports. Tell your bank straight away if money moved. In an emergency call 000.
- Identity help: IDCARE (idcare.org) is a free Australian service that supports people whose personal information or accounts have been compromised.
- Harassment and intimate images: the eSafety Commissioner (esafety.gov.au) takes reports about image-based abuse and serious cyberbullying and can act on content that Instagram has not removed. It does not restore accounts.
- Business profiles: have your ABN, trading name and website to hand if Instagram asks you to show the profile belongs to a real business.
If the notice is about your age
From 10 December 2025, Instagram and Facebook must take reasonable steps to stop Australians under 16 from holding accounts. If you are 16 or older and lost access because Meta thinks you are younger, the notice offers an age check through Yoti, using a video selfie or a government ID. Use the check from the notice itself and keep the details you give consistent with your real date of birth. If you are under 16, an appeal will not change the rule, so download your photos and messages while Instagram still lets you.
What not to do
- Don’t pay or message anyone from a DM who says they can “open” your account.
- Don’t share your password or login codes with anyone, including us.
- Don’t create new accounts to plead with Instagram, and don’t send the same appeal over and over.
How Unbanz helps
We work out whether the account is disabled, hacked or both, gather the notice, the old email and phone and the dates, and handle the appeal through Meta’s official process. Main page: Instagram account recovery.
How it works with Unbanz
- Message us on WhatsApp or email with the Instagram name or profile link, the email or phone on the account, and a screenshot of the notice.
- We tell you honestly whether we can help and what it would cost.
- We prepare everything and handle the appeal through the platform’s official process.
- We keep you posted until there’s a result. Meta makes the final decision.
Who this is for
- Australian creators, small shops and agencies who run their work through Instagram.
- People hacked through a fake login page or a message about a “copyright strike”.
- Adults who lost access after an age check they believe was wrong.
- Anyone who already appealed once and heard nothing back.
Staying safe
Nobody needs your password or login codes to help you. Not us, not anyone. If someone in your DMs offers to fix it for you, asks you to log in through their link, or claims to have a special way in, walk away. Unbanz never asks for logins and doesn’t claim any special access. We use the same official routes that are open to you, we just know them well and do the legwork properly.
No passwords or login codes. We handle the process end to end; Meta makes the final decision.
