Lost admin access to your Meta business portfolio: what are your options?

What to do first

Find out who still has access. Check old invitation emails, ask staff and agencies, and look at who’s listed on your Pages. Contact them with a clear written request to be made a full-control admin.

Step 1: Check you’re logged in correctly

Make sure you’re using the personal profile that was originally invited. A different login or a work email might show nothing. Try opening Business Settings directly from the profile that you used to manage ads.

Step 3: If the portfolio was hacked

If someone else has taken control, use Meta’s hacked business portfolio steps. Secure your personal profile first, because that’s usually how access is lost. Then check ad accounts for charges you didn’t make and contact your bank about any.

Step 4: Prepare documents

Typical items include government ID, business registration, domain or tax records, invoices connected to ads and a signed letter. Names must be consistent across documents.

Triage: what is the risk right now?

Before the paperwork, work out what’s exposed. Are ads still running? Is the payment method still attached? Are other people able to edit your Pages? If money is at stake, contact your bank to review charges or temporarily suspend the card. For ad accounts you can still reach, lower or pause budgets. Then work on the access request with a clear head.

Write a one-page timeline: when you last had access, who had it, what changed and when you noticed. A tidy timeline speeds up any conversation about the portfolio.

What not to do

• Don’t set up a duplicate portfolio and try to move assets informally. Assets can’t be reassigned without access.
• Don’t pay anyone who promises to “recover” the portfolio.
• Don’t delay if ad accounts are still billing.

Prevention

Keep two or more full-control admins, tied to different real people. Record the date each role was assigned and review them whenever staff change.
