Report the account as a scam and as impersonation, warn your followers, and collect the DMs it’s sending. Scam reports with screenshots of the messages are much stronger than a profile report alone.
How these scams work
- A near-copy of your handle (extra letter, underscore, dot).
- DMs saying “you won”, then asking for a fee, card details or a login.
- Fake crypto or trading “mentors” using your photos.
- Links to look-alike login pages that steal accounts.
Do this now
- Ask a follower who got a DM for screenshots.
- Report the account in the app as a scam or fraud, then as pretending to be you.
- Post a story: “I never DM about giveaways or money.”
- Turn on two-factor on your own account. Phishing links often follow.
If you were scammed by one
Report the account, contact your bank or card provider, and report the fraud to your local police or consumer agency. We can help report the account through Meta’s process, but we don’t recover money.
