Short answer
The wording on the lock screen tells you everything. “Temporarily locked” has an end. “Permanently locked” doesn’t.
What each message usually means
- Locked for a third-party app or plugin. A timed lock. The message or your email says when it ends.
- Temporarily locked for another reason. Snapchat usually says wait around 48 hours, then log in again.
- Permanently locked. Can’t be unlocked yourself. You’d need an appeal.
- Device banned. The phone is blocked, not just the account.
How to unlock a temporary lock
- Wait until the time is up.
- Delete any third-party Snapchat apps first.
- Go to Snapchat’s accounts page and tap Unlock.
- Change your password and turn on two-step verification.

What resets the clock
Trying again with the same third-party app, logging in on lots of devices, or using VPN switching can extend things or turn a temporary lock permanent.
