Snapchat username taken or inactive

The Snapchat name you want is gone. Here is how to check it, what your options are, and what to skip.

Check the username

Try the name in Settings, then Username. Search for it and look at the profile. Snapchat limits how often you can change your username, so check before you commit.

If it looks inactive

An unused account doesn't mean a free name. Snapchat doesn't publish a public form for releasing inactive usernames, so there is no sure route.

If it's a fake or copycat

If the account pretends to be you or your brand, you can report it as impersonation inside the app. See our guide on reporting a fake Snapchat account.

What to avoid

Don't buy a username from a stranger and never give out your password or login codes. Sellers often vanish, or the account is taken back later.

Alternatives

Add a short tag or your city and keep it the same across platforms.

How Unbanz handles it

Our Snapchat username claim service goes after inactive and taken names. Send the one you want and we'll tell you straight if it's doable.

Official sources

Platforms update their help pages and flows often. Always follow the wording on your own screen and the current official Help Center. Unbanz is an independent service and is not affiliated with Snap Inc. or Meta.

YOUR QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Does Snapchat release inactive usernames?

Not on request that we know of. Treat any promise of a sure thing with suspicion.

Can I change my Snapchat username?

Yes, in settings, but Snapchat limits how often. Check the current rules in Snapchat Support.

Can you get me a Snapchat username?

Sometimes. Send it over and we'll tell you if it's doable.
