If you were hacked
Look for Instagram’s email about the username change and use the “secure your account” link. Then go to instagram.com/hacked. Once you’re back in, rename to the original if it’s still free. Our hacked account guide covers the steps.
If you renamed or deleted and someone grabbed it
- They’re pretending to be you. That’s impersonation, and it can be reported.
- It matches your registered trademark. Meta’s IP process can apply.
- They grabbed it and left it dead. Dead or squatting accounts can sometimes be claimed.
- An unrelated active person uses it fairly. Usually there’s nothing to do. We’ll say so.

Staying safe

If someone in your DMs offers to sort it, asks you to log in through their link, or says they know someone at Meta, walk away. Unbanz never asks for logins and doesn’t claim any special access.
