Work out what is restricted
Meta can place restrictions on different assets, and the fix depends on which one:
- The ad account – it can no longer run ads.
- Your personal profile’s advertising access – you cannot advertise or manage ads on any account, even if the ad account itself is fine.
- A Page – it cannot be used to advertise.
- A Business Portfolio (formerly Business Manager) – restrictions affect the assets inside it.
Meta’s Business Help Center article Troubleshoot a disabled or restricted account is the official starting point and links to the current flows.
Check Account Quality
Go to Account Quality (business.facebook.com/accountquality). It shows the assets you have access to, any restrictions, the reason Meta gives, and – where available – a Request review button. Select the restricted asset and open the details before you do anything else. Note the policy named; it tells you what the review will be judged against.
Common reasons for restrictions
- Ads or landing pages that go against Meta’s Advertising Standards – for example, misleading claims, prohibited products, or personal-attribute targeting language.
- Unusual activity: a new account spending heavily straight away, logins from unfamiliar locations, or many admins added at once.
- Payment problems: failed charges, disputed payments or a card used across many accounts.
- Signs of compromise: someone gained access and ran ads you did not create.
- A link to other restricted assets or profiles.
How to request a review
- In Account Quality, select the restricted asset and choose Request review if it is shown.
- Follow the steps. Meta may ask you to confirm your identity, secure your account with two-factor authentication, or provide business details.
- Where a text box is offered, explain briefly what your business does, what you advertise and, if relevant, what you have already fixed.
- Submit once and wait. Multiple requests for the same restriction do not speed up review.
If the button is missing, check that you are an admin of the asset, try another admin with full control, and look for any outstanding steps (such as a balance to pay). Some restrictions cannot be reviewed again after a final decision.
Fix the root cause first
Before requesting a review, remove or edit ads that may break the Advertising Standards, check your landing pages match what the ads promise, settle any unpaid balance, remove admins you do not recognise, and turn on two-factor authentication for every person with access. If the account was compromised, secure the profiles first – otherwise the problem can repeat.
Business verification
For many businesses, completing business verification in Business Settings helps establish who is behind the account. It typically involves the legal business name, address, phone number and documents such as a business registration or utility bill. Make sure the details match exactly. Verification is not a guarantee against restrictions, but mismatched details can slow reviews.
Avoiding the next restriction
- Warm up new ad accounts gradually instead of spending heavily on day one.
- Keep at least two trusted admins with two-factor authentication.
- Use one payment method per ad account where possible and keep it in good standing.
- Review ads against the Advertising Standards before launch, especially in sensitive categories such as finance, health and employment.
- Do not create new accounts to get around restrictions.
What to prepare for a review
Reviews go more smoothly when the facts are clear and consistent across everything Meta can see:
- Screenshots of the restriction in Account Quality, including the policy named and the date.
- A list of the ads that were rejected, with what you have changed since.
- Your website, refund policy and contact details – landing pages should clearly show who you are.
- Business registration and address details that match the information in Business Settings.
- Payment method details and confirmation that any outstanding balance is cleared.
- A note of which people have admin access and when they were added.
Keep your explanation short. Describe what your business does, what you advertise and what you fixed. Avoid copying generic “appeal templates” from the internet; reviewers see the same wording often and it says nothing about your account.
When to bring in a service
If the review was rejected, if you cannot tell which asset is restricted, or if a whole Business Portfolio is affected, our ad account recovery service can handle it. We review the restriction details first and give a fixed quote before we start. Outcomes are decided by Meta, so we do not promise them.
