How to remove a fake Instagram account using your photos or name

Fake accounts using your photos are common and frustrating. Instagram does remove them, as long as the report goes to the right place.

Report it as impersonation

On the fake profile, tap the three dots, then Report, then the option that says the account is pretending to be someone. Choose "Me" if it's you.

No Instagram account? Use the form

Instagram's Help Center has an impersonation form that anyone can use. You may be asked for a photo of your ID.

Warn your followers

Post a story saying the account is fake and ask people not to send money or click links. Ask friends to report it as impersonating you, but only if it really is.

If it keeps coming back

Keep a list of every fake username with screenshots. Make your real account easy to identify with a clear bio. If it keeps happening, we can handle the takedowns for you.

Want us to handle it?

If the official route stalls, our fake account takedown service gets it done. We never need your password.

Official sources

Meta updates its help pages and flows often. Always follow the wording on your own notice and the current official Help Center. Unbanz is an independent service and is not affiliated with Meta, Instagram or Facebook.
